Silverfish are wingless insects and are considered primitive and unspecialized compared to other insects. They have a flattened, tapered, torpedo-shaped body covered in metallic-looking scales. These insects are commonly found in areas with high humidity.

Reproductive cycle

Silverfish breed most effectively in temperatures ranging from 22°C to 27°C. Their life cycle occurs without metamorphosis, meaning the eggs hatch into young that molt several times before reaching adulthood.

Silverfish thrive in areas with high humidity. Outdoors, they can be found under bark, leaf litter, rocks, and logs. However, indoors, silverfish are highly adaptable and can survive in almost any environment within the home.

Diet

Silverfish feed on starchy substances such as glue, wallpaper paste, and starchy foods. They also consume biscuits, bread crumbs, paper, textiles, and other cellulose-based products.
